We are not Jewish but I've been seeking good books written for Jewish children because of the beautiful and non-evangelical tone to them (I was raised in the Bible Belt, Texas, and had enough of that for one lifetime). This book has simple prayers and beautiful watercolor paintings and is perfect for children and for use in my own paintings as spiritual messages. My 3 year old even appreciates it! :)

When our daughter began attending a Jewish day school, the panic set in. What would I do when my child came home from school on Friday night expecting to have Shabbat? The chicken I could cook, but the prayer over the candles? I got on Amazon and ordered everything Judaic I could find. This little book was about half-way through the pile of books and DVDs I'd ordered and I wish it had been the first. The book is small, beautifully illustrated, and serves like a Jewish "Top Ten" list of prayers. It includes prayers written in Hebrew characters, transliteration, and English translations. Perfect! Included for each prayer is a brief (1 or 2 sentence) explaination of what the prayer is for and when it is or is not said. Genius!

I purchased 3 of these, one for each household for 5 grandsons ages 3 to 7. They are each interfaith households. They loved the book. It is written in English, Hebrew, and phonetically so it is perfect.

Another Hanukka gift. Has Hebrew and translation with narrative material. (night time Sh'ma, Modeh Ani, blessings for food, etc.) A child's book, but perhaps a refresher for mommy or daddy. Get them started right and early.

It's a good little book of prayers. The Hebrew is accurate but major liberties were taken in the English. It is not a literal translation or even a paraphrase. It's more like an idea of something similar to say in English. If you are looking for a close word for word translation into English, only a couple of the prayers have it. The English captures the main idea. If this doesn't matter to you, then it is a book with a variety of simple prayers that kids would enjoy and benefit from hearing and saying.

This has helped my eight year old begin to learn the prayers. It is smaller and less intimidating that a traditional prayer book, has transliterations, and, by making it manageable, gives my son a sense of accomplishment in beginning to get these down pat. This book is lovely.

It doesn't load on my Kindle paper white, but I can read it on my computer and my Samsung phone. It's a great book.

Working at a Jewish preschool, this book came in handy. Hebrew is not easy to read because it's spelling and sounds do not always match. This book helped with that.
